A Life with Nature and Tradition

Established in 2007, Chippie Eno Co. is a residential building company based in Helensville, New Zealand offering artisan-style solutions. We are not a construction company, but a tiny art factory.

With many years of experience, we specialize in Japanese traditional architecture-influenced design and build. A life with nature and tradition is the cornerstone of our work.

What We Do

Using traditional Japanese building and carpentry methods (including nail-less construction), we specialize in:

  • Build a new house based on Japanese traditional method, maximum 3 bedroom house
  • House renovation
  • House maintenance
  • Bathroom and Kitchen customisation / installation
  • Made to order furniture: table, shelf, insect screen, etc.
  • Blade sharpening using natural Japanese stones: tools, kitchen knives, hairdresser scissors, etc. (order from minimum 3 pieces)
  • Stained glass (in partnership with Japanese glass designer Atelier Ensemble)

What We Don't Do

We never work for the architects because of the technical problem. We never had the architects in Japanese traditional construction history since over thousands years. The Japanese traditional builders only have been an architect for ever since its origin.

Profile of Eno

I have been working as a carpenter/builder for 22 years. I learned old fashioned way mainly in Japan. I graduated vocational school and got 1st prize of Japanese trade skill qualification in Saitama prefecture. So that I got chances to work on Temple, old farmers house, etc.

It was the end of high developing economy in Japan that I started learning carpentry. There had already many of old houses had knocked down to rebuild in 2x4 house, panel house, etc. And there had not many old fashioned builder left so as not many old fashioned jobs left too. So probably, I am the last generation to have learned the traditional skills.
